Identifikasi Kosakata Arkais Dalam Bahasa Minangkabau di Kecamatan Sangir Jujuan, Kabupaten Solok Selata, Kajian;Sosiolinguistik

Abstract

This study examines archaic vocabulary in the Minangkabau language in Sangir Jujuan District using sociolinguistics. This study aims to identify archaic vocabulary and determine the factors that cause this vocabulary to be rarely used by the community. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, documentation, and triangulation. The research data source comes from the native Minangkabau language speakers in Sangir Jujuan District. The results show that archaic vocabulary is found in five word classes, namely nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and adverbs. The shift in the use of archaic vocabulary occurs because people prefer to use vocabulary that is considered more common and modern in everyday communication. Factors such as age, education, urbanization, migration, and developments are the main causes of the shift in archaic vocabulary in the Minangkabau language. This research is expected to be one of the efforts to preserve the Minangkabau language and culture so that archaic vocabulary remains known to the next generation.
